When I was in middle school, one of my friends got really ill. She was gone from school for many weeks and everyone wondered if she was okay. Finally, after a few months she returned. She looked pale and weak as if a mere shadow of herself. She walked up to me and gave me a huge hug. She said my mom was one of her primary nurses at UNC on the pediatric Med/Surg unit. My mom sat with her countless days and nights and they shared many positive experiences together despite the hard circumstances she faced. This inspired me to dive into biology and eventually into healthcare as a whole.
